lindarichman_coffeetalk_mikemeyers.jpgtransparent1x1.gifOy! Has it been a month already?! I get such nachas from putting these words down.

Yes, it’s another episode of Forum Talk…where we focus on what people are saying about RMX Direct. This week, we’ll be shifting a bit towards another medium we use here besides the RMX Direct forums. It’s so 1990’s and so Web 1.0, but it’s great: email.

Our support staff is always receiving emails from users about this or that: feature requests, questions, etc. But we’re also proactive — why not email someone with an answer before they’ve got a question? We’re not mind readers, but we’re always looking at accounts and analyzing them…asking ourselves, “What can they change to earn more from their account?”

We know that almost every account in RMX Direct could be making more if the owner knew all the monetization best practices that our tech support and analysis teams have discovered. That’s what happens when you eat, sleep and breathe RMXD.

Here’s an example of such an analysis email thread (with sensitive data stripped out).

RMX Direct Analysis Letter:

Thank you for using RMX Direct to maximize your ad network revenue! Below is some helpful information about RMX Direct and a quick analysis of each tab for your account.

How do I get more out of RMX Direct?

Below is some tab-specific information that might help you earn more revenue from RMX Direct:

Analyze Tab : You’re getting a handful of PSAs. You should get an external network (possibly a contextual one) to help. Also, why don’t you try out some new ad sizes? 160×600s and 728×90s might fit easily with your design and would probably pay a little more…

Manage Tab : Let’s get some external networks in here! This is what separates RMX Direct from the pack—you can bring in anyone you want, and we promise to only serve our partner networks’ ads if we can beat your outside networks’ bids.

Setup Tab : Looks like you’re set up to receive PayPal now. That’s cool, and if you want ACH (it’s like direct deposit), we offer that now, too.

Media Guard Tab : Your Media Guard settings are allowing approximately 93% of all creatives to go to your tags. That’s fantastic, because it means that your settings aren’t losing you any money. I do, however, highly recommend switching from the “Open” to “Custom Settings” option, then reading through all the different things you can ban, and making sure that we’re not currently allowing anything that you would want banned.

Community Tab : Check out the forums when you get a chance—there are some useful threads in there, and we’d love to have even more participation in there, if that type of thing interests you.

How are other publishers using the Manage tab?

We wanted to share some of the ways that other publishers have used RMX Direct to maximize revenue. Rather than simply managing defaults based on price, some publishers have employed sophisticated ad serving strategies in RMX Direct to maximize revenue.

Below is a sample of two strategies:

1. Auction multiple networks in the Manage tab. This can be done by frequency-capping and geotargeting campaigns based on predicted fill from a given network. Through trial and error publishers have discovered how to place top ad networks in a position to receive impressions that will match their premium campaigns. Rather than letting a network default for them, publishers are taking control of their inventory.

2. Auction multiple placements for the same network and ad size. Some publishers are setting up multiple placements for each advertiser, setting a frequency cap, and pricing in tiers based on expected CPM for a certain frequency. For instance, setting up network A with a placement frequency-capped 2/24 at $.40 CPM, then another for the Network A, frequency-capped again at 2/24, this time at $.35. By doing this you can actively manage the first views for each user, usually the highest CPM views overall.

Subject: Re: RMX Direct–What’s New and Account Analysis

Hi Analysis Staff ,

Thank you for your email, I wasn’t aware of half the functionality you’ve listed in your email. I’ve made a fair amount of changes which have had a dramatic impact on my creatives limitations. I’ll keep tinkering with this until I find a happy medium. I’ve also brought in my contextual ad account to stop PSAs, which is currently working great.

Thank you.

Kind Regards,

An RMX Direct User
