RMX Direct NW Roadshow, Day 1-Gresham, Oregon
January 10th, 2007
Thrills.
That’s all I can say about our first day of video shooting.
Yes, this was the first day of our NW roadshow. And it lived up to the passion and excitement that we went into it with.
After we upgraded to a 2006 Suburban at the rental shop (we needed a car that could handle predicted ice/snow in the Seattle area AND could handle our 8 foot long PVC pipes for our backdrop frame), unexpected tragedy struck–at least for my pocket book.
2 minutes on the road, on a notorious stretch known for being a speed trap here in Eugene, we (ok, I) got pulled over for a speeding ticket. It turned out to be considered a minor infraction by the officer; he was nice to us once he saw who we were. Once something like that happens, the rest of day goes great.
And it did.
We met Brad Fosnot today. He has been on RMX Direct for over 4 months and his blog is Gamerumors.net
It was great meeting a publisher who, while not as large in terms of ad impressions as some of our RMX Direct publishers, is starting to gain traction: building traffic and making use of RMX Direct to better monetize his site. And he is also very cognizant of the needs of our ’smaller’ publishers on the exchange.
Gamerumors.net covers exactly that–rumors about the world of gaming:
“We focus specifically on rumors…there are so many sites that cover everything out there…but we didn’t want to do that because…I love rumors…personally I think that’s what makes the world go around.”
While I and Joe set-up the sound stage, Cameron, our interviewer, had great conversations with him about online advertising, gaming and how RMX Direct acts as a way to link them all together for Brad. The interview went well, and we took him out for Japanese food later. We know of the many hard-working publishers out there, but it’s nice to finally start to meet them beyond our forum pages.
I look forward to Brad and Gamerumors.net future successes. You will see our footage of the interview in the near future. Thank you, Brad!
R and R: During our free time, we actually bowled a few games. Cam, who is a bowling aficionado, discovered that a bowling pro, Parker Bohn III (the third), was giving a demonstration of his bowling prowess at that particular bowling alley. Now, this is like passing through a city and finding out that Michael Jordan is hanging out at local park basketball court. Can’t miss it.
It was fun and irreverent: when you can throw your bowling ball under two chairs in the middle of the lane (with people sitting on them!)…and STILL get a strike, you’re good. Cam was slightly disappointed at the crowd–there were too many people, so we couldn’t wait around for an autograph.
This roadshow is giving us a healthy slice of American culture, as well as an opportunity to meet our users. Currently were on the road to Seattle: sleet, rain and all.
What will Wednesday bring? Stay tuned…

[…] R and R: We finished the shoot, packed up the video and sound equipment, and said our goodbyes to Rick. Then we figured, “Hey, the roads are still icy…why not let it warm up a bit…and play a couple games of BlackJack?” We had noticed a casino close to Rick’s office, and it was definitely warmer than our car. (disclaimer: like my unlucky speeding ticket earlier in this journey, this also was not expensed to Right Media). […]
