Community and RMX Direct
November 22nd, 2006
One-on-one interactions: you want to usually make that other person feel good about you/your company–even if you have to draw a line and say no to them about their business proposition. Tricky business. One-on-one is tough; it’s tough to trust everyone’s intentions. ConverstionRater.com seems to be saying something similar here–see #9.
However, it can only get easier when you’re doing this within…a community.
Whether your taste for community leads you to an evening bowling league, an online forums page, or a rainbow gathering, making tough decisions within a group of people–people with similar rules of engagement–is easier.
Honesty is important. Transparency is even better. Also, security and protection for everyone within that group is necessary. When you have these elements in place, a group accountability seems to occur, naturally. And when you can create mutually beneficial goals for all involved…that’s a recipe for success.
It’s easy to say, though. Now, actually try creating a ‘community’. Here’s a prudent approach to take: find an imperfect group, then just create a better ’subset’ of it.
Publishers want a better way to make advertising revenue off their site.
- They want to know how much people are really paying for their ad inventory.
- They want the opportunity to meet and work with a bevy of trustworthy networks.
The imperfect group? The online advertising world for a small to mid-sized publisher.
The better subset? The RMX Direct community.
I guess that’s what we’re doing; our ’subset’ has grown naturally and organically for us during this beta period. The RMX Direct ‘Community Tab’ says it all. On our internal forums, our users talk to each other with respect. People are being helpful–and humble–about what they know. We even had our first contest this week. It’s informative, but it’s fun and light. I wish all tech forums were like that.
Then the transparency and honesty part: our open auction model with robust, real-time reporting on RMX Direct. And members feel secure and protected: Media Guard , VURL auditing, and more.
