RMX Tool Focus: The Link Tab

Link

What’s this tab do?

Brad Nelson (Project Manager/Business Development): The ‘Link’ tab is a tool that allows publishers to apply to various networks from one central location, without having to fill out multiple applications. It doesn’t get any easier than just clicking “Apply. Every network that participates in the RMX Direct program is listed in ‘Link’ with helpful information about their company, what makes them unique, the revenue share they offer, and how other publishers rate each network in various categories. We wanted to create a tool that would allow publishers to quickly establish multiple business relationships but in a way that they could make informed decisions. I think ‘Link’ provides that.

Probably the most unique thing about ‘Link’ is that every network you link with will compete for your inventory on every single impression. ‘Link’ eliminates the need for publishers to try and manage delivery of their inventory because the highest paying network serves the ad, every time.

It’s my favorite place in the application by far. It’s informative, easy to use, and helps people make more money!

Why is it important?

BN: ‘Link’ is the tool that ties the entire Exchange together. Without it, there would be no RMX! And that would not be good for any of us.

What role have you played in its development?

BN: A form of ‘Link’ has actually been around since April of 2005– I wasn’t part of the development of it at that time. As the Exchange has grown, additions have been made to the tool. This is the first time, however, that we’ve released it to publishers on a broad scale. The older version, while effective, wasn’t always the easiest to use. My job was to take the existing tool, clean it up, eliminate some steps, and basically just make it a tool that people wanted to use because it is easy and informative. I think the entire team here did a good job of that. I’m sure I’ll hear about it if we didn’t.

What’s your insider hint for using this tab?

BN: Hopefully we’ve developed it in a way that there doesn’t need to be insider hints. The only advice I would give is to take a minute to look over the information provided about each network, see how their offerings match up to your advertising needs and apply to the ones you think match up the best.

What do you do at RM ?: I originally started out as a Business Development Manager working with publishers to help monetize their inventory. Now I am a Product Manager, specifically for RMX Direct. Basically, people get to yell at me if something goes wrong.

How long have you been here?: Just a couple months shy of a year. It’s been a fun ride so far.

What inspires you about RM/RMXDirect?: I’ve worked for companies in a variety of industries that always seem to “think their product is really helping someone. This is the first time I’ve really believed and seen that the company I am a part of is contributing in a positive way to someone’s business. The online ad industry has a lot of inefficiencies that people are starting to see. RMX Direct is a tool that helps eliminate some of these and really benefits publishers in the form of greater revenue and easier ad management.

A ‘personal factoid’: You know the lids that you get with fountain sodas that have the bubbles on top to mark the type of drink it is? I love pushing those down!
